The Suzuki Team revalidates its European title achieved last season, this time in the hands of Joan Vinyes and Jordi Mercader, for both of them it was enough to finish the last test, the RallyRACC, to win the title. A title that in any case would remain in the team since in case of abandonment of Vinyes it would fall to Alberto Monarri.
For this reason, Vinyes’ objective was to finish at all costs, leaving aside the times, for Monarri’s part, accompanied on this occasion by Borja Odriziola, would seek victory in the category and the best possible position. Both Suzuki Swift R4lly S rolled like clockwork without the slightest problem. Monarri finished the first stage at the head of the category and in seventh overall position in the ERC while Vinyes was tenth.
In the second stage, Monarri went after Pellier, reducing the lead with the Frenchman to 6.6 seconds. In the second of the day, the man from Madrid lowered the distance to 1.1. Pellier beat him by 5 tenths in the following while Monarri beat him in section 12, taking the difference to just 1 tenth in favor of the Suzuki. Section 13 was neutralized, while in the last Monarri tried but gave up sixth place by 1 second. Members, Vinyes and Mercader, crossed the finish line of section 14, proclaiming themselves winners of the ERC Open 2022.
